Description
SAN AGUSTIN – RICARDO ZELAYA COFFEES
San Agustin has been under the Ricardo Zelaya’s team’s wings since he rented it in 2005. The farm is located in the eastern slopes of the Antigua Valley, with an altitude that ranges between 1,600 to 1,880 meters above sea level. Its profound soils are filled with organic material and its microclimate is the perfect combination of humid and cold. These factors contribute in the production of a very tasteful and rich cup of coffee.
The plantation is covered with Gravilea shade trees, which are used to give the coffee plants the right amount of sunshine during the different stages of their life.
This farm is originally part of finca Cabrejo, a very old and renowned farm in the Antigua area. The owners ran the farm for many years until a price crisis and frosts affected the plantation and forced them to abandon it. In 2005, they made a long term deal of renting the farm to Ricardo Zelaya. The old plantation consisted of 4 hectares that were damaged and in no conditions to recover and produce good yields. Therefore, between 2005 and 2006, Ricardo replanted these 4 hectares and planted 21 new hectares.
Ricardo Zelaya is a member of the fourth generation of the Zelaya family. Since 1986, he has been committed to innovate and adapt in order to ensure excellence in every step of the coffee production chain. Ricardo, along with his valued team, is devoted to produce the highest quality coffee in the world and continuously increase his farms’ social and environmental responsibilities.
