Description

Finca KOA is located in a cloudy area of Jalapa, Nueva Segovia. Kleymer José Ortez Agurcia bought the farm a few years ago from his father, José Ángel Ortez Urbina. The farm has improved as a result of father and son working together, sharing experiences and visions, combining ideas from both generations.

The farm has a surface area of 95 manzanas (67 hectares), which is divided into 50 manzanas (35.25 hectares) of virgin forest, surrounded by valuable trees such as mahogany, cedar, granadillo, among others. It has diversity of animals such as monkeys of different species, mountain turkeys and many types of birds. The rest of the area, 45 manzanas (31.73 hectares), is covered with coffee of different varieties; such as yellow/red catuai, maras and mostly caturra. The lower part of the farm is at 1,300 meters above sea level, the middle part is 1,640 meters above the sea level and the highest part is 1,720 meters above the sea level. The climate is permanently cloudy.

The crop is carefully supervised, doing soil analysis before using fertilizers. Roya prevention is done with certified products. The foliar and cleaning are done mostly manually, using as little herbicides as possible.

The harvesting process is supervised. The coffee bean is taken to the collection site where the red grape is selected and washed to eliminate impurities. Then it goes to the pulping area where the coffee is classified by size. After the fermentation, the coffee is washed and put to dry in an under shade area where it is classified by skilled workers.

Before transporting the coffee to the benefit, we make sure that the means of transportation is in suitable conditions. The coffee is packed in new bags intended of transportation, only after quality supervision is done.

The ultimate goal of Finca KOA is to improve the quality of coffee. Innovate and follow the new standards of our industry. Improve living conditions for all who make this possible is extremely important. Also, protecting the nature that Finca is still enjoying is important as well.
