Cup of Excellence
Sítio Monjolinho was passed to producer Sandra Lelis da Silva by her father, Valdomiro Lopes da Silva. As the current administrator of the property, she works together with her husband, Paulo Afonso, and son, Vinícius Lelis. The farm is located in the city of Canaã, cortado by excellent springs of crystalline waters, protected by ciliary forests. The temperature in the region varies from 18 to 22°C. Sandra is greatly concerned about environmental and social issues. She has won awards in regional and national competitions due to the high quality of her coffee.
The harvest is done by hand, which creates jobs. After being picked, the coffee is weighed and transported by truck to a neighboring location where it is washed and pulped. The water used in this phase is completely recycled. Next the beans are taken for drying on cement patios until they stop sticking together, then they are spread on African beds and arranged according to quality. When the drying is finished, the separate lots are kept in rest boxes and stored on the property.
The owner has invested much and sought information, seeking to maintain the high quality of the coffee produced. It is essential that everyone who works from before the harvest through the post-harvest have special training, thus guaranteeing the standard of quality and productivity of the coffee. The owner’s vision is for all the work to be done with attention to environmental and social matters of all involved.
