Description

Sítio Braga is located at 1100 meters of elevation in the mountainous region in the interior of Espírito Santo, in the city of Afonso Cláudio.

The coffee growing tradition began with the producer’s great-grandfather, José Anselmo Braga, an Italian immigrant who came to Espírito Santo, where he planted his firth coffee crops. Today the farm is in the 4th generation of coffee producers with 100% familial labor.

Jeremias relies on the help of his wife, Sueli Schwanz, and son, Alexandre de Souza Braga, for day-to-day work.

Coffee has always been the family’s source of income, but they began working with high-quality coffee around 20 years ago. They learned about specialty coffee production from a neighbor. The family was going through difficult times financially, but they decided to take a risk and learn about quality coffees.

Since they began working with specialty coffees, the producers’ lives have changed for the better. They always participate in coffee quality competitions when possible. Their work has been rewarded with good placings in regional and national competitions, for example in Florada Premiada, a national competition for coffees produced by women coffee producers (100 best in 2019).

The producer is grateful to his family for helping with daily work, and they are thrilled to be among the winners of Cup of Excellence Brazil 2020.

The selected coffee was planted on the highest point of the farm. The harvest was selective. Only completely ripe cherries were picked. They were washed and pulped on the same day. Then the coffee was spread on African beds, where it was treated with all due care during the drying process.
