Description

The Ocoteno farm, a Nahuatl voice that means "place of pines", has been producing coffee since 2015, the year in which the Marsellesa variety was planted. The production is developed under a friendly system with the environment considering the planting of shade trees such as Chalahuite (Inga vera), orange tree, lime tree and other good practices such as the use of biofertilizers (beneficial micro organisms), which aim to recover the soil and reduce the use of agrochemicals. Miguel Ronquillo is a third-generation producer, and together with his family they are responsible for monitoring the entire process, from taking care of the farms to obtaining parchment coffee; This meticulous care, coupled with constant training, guarantees the quality of a specialty coffee. As part of the farm's social responsibility, its workers are paid wages above the local average, especially in harvest activities. The vision as a family business is to reach a point of equilibrium that allows improving the quality of life of all the workers involved in the production of coffee to maintain the union and the roots of the families that are often affected by migration. In 2019, the Ocoteno farm participated for the first time in the Cup of Excellence contest, been COE winner at 11th position and from that moment on it encouraged and guided other producers in its town to participate in the contest, which contributed to obtaining a relevant participation for the state. of Puebla that obtained six winners of the International phase. These results motivate the Ronquillo family to continue promoting the production of specialty coffees that allow a profitable coffee activity for more producers.
