The farm is named THE LIMONAR since the date the land was acquired, because a lemon tree was used as a reference to point the property. Lemon tree in Spanish is LIMONERO or LIMONAR, and so by decision of Don Hugo the new owner the name EL LIMONAR was adopted for the coffee farm.
El Limonar is pioneer in coffee growing in the department of Huehuetenango, turning many areas in the past dedicated to growing corn in coffee areas. This implied greater advantages in relation to the environment, because the coffee tree and its shade help to maintain more stable and enhances ecosystem biological diversity.
Additionally the farm has a forest reserve whose goal is the conservation of water resources. On the other hand the reserve is ideal for the conservation of biological resources of the region (flora and fauna). This wooded area is in a water recharge area, as it is in here that the Michicoy River, a tributary of the Rio Ocho (Ocho River) is formed.
