Don Francisco de Sola M. was a businessman, lover of nature and experimenter in agriculture and livestock. In 1953 he bought the property Plan del Hoyo, located in Cantón Buenos Aires, Volcano of Santa Ana, Apaneca- Ilamatepec mountain range.
Originally this property belonged to the Díaz Salinas Family.
Plan del Hoyo is a land of approximately 90 hectares, ancient crater of the volcano of Santa Ana, ideally located on the north side of the masif, which over time became forests, diverse crops suitable for altitudes of 1850 meters above sea level, relatively protected from the winds.
In 2005 he saw the opportunity to turn the lands of Plan del Hoyo to produce specialty coffees, for which he began to plant lots with different varieties, such as Kenya, Castillo, Anacafe 14, Geisha and Catimores.
It also houses a variety garden managed by the University of Texas with the Borlaug Institute and others for the Swiss firm Nestlé. Currently there is a staff of 10 permanent workers and during the recollection period (January- March) 30 people are hired.
All this in respect of the investigative tradition that Don Francisco de Sola M. left us, in a privileged volcanic land, with a healthy environment, protected and endowed with exceptional natural beauty, where coffee is worked with the care that is demanded, an example for the national coffee industry and a contribution to the sustainability of our environment.
Living coffee is different from watching it from a desk or a computer screen. The sequence in agricultural time, the rhythm of the work, the discipline and application of love to the crop, all this is transforming, generating peace of mind and a great sense of accomplishment.
And to think that the final product is the delight of the palate of thousands of consumers, it causes amazement and realization of how we are interconnected with the whole world and to be able to carry it out in the natural wonder that characterizes Plan del Hoyo, is a remarkable fortune.
