History of the farm
The property on which Osman grows his coffee was inherited from his father, the late Amador Dias, who was a well-known farmer in the region and one of the coffee pioneers in the area. He saw his father working with coffee and began to like it. When Amador passed away, the farm was split into 12 parts. The part Osman received was very privileged, with high elevations and very good, fertile soil. With this, he and his wife decided to continue the tradition and make coffee their business. They have two children, the elder is 21 and the younger 19. They help a lot on the farm, especially during the harvest during which they supervise all processes. They also reply on the help of daughter-in-law Julia.
The agriculture is familial. They use machinery solely to transport the beans to the patio. Drying is totally natural and the coffee is raked frequently during the day until it reaches the ideal humidity. Then it is stored in bags to rest and be processed. The producers cherish the quality of their coffee and always respects nature. Last year they took a lot of coffee to a local cupper, who said that the coffee was very special and had potential in competitions. Thus they had this in mind, but didn’t know what to do.
During the 2021 harvest, the producers were anxious to see the drink quality the plot would yield. Thus they were very careful with the post-harvest processing of this coffee, dedicating a lot of time, care and love to achieve a quality drink, like they did in the previous harvest. They entered the lot in the BSCA competition and went far!
