Description
The Tapula Farm, located in the municipality of Zongozotla, in the Northern Sierra region of the State of Puebla, is of family origin. This plot of just over half a hectare, situated at 950 meters above sea level, was inherited by Martina Luna Gaona approximately 9 years ago. Since then, she has been responsible for carrying out all the management related to the small plot. When she inherited the cultivation, it had old plantations of Typica varieties. However, the damage caused by rust diseases forced her to change varieties. The new Marsellesa plants established 7 years ago have provided good quality, leading her to participate in competitions such as Yara Champion and Orgullo Puebla in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
To prepare this batch, she made three soil fertilizer applications, two foliar applications for flowering induction, and one for grain filling. She worked with selective harvesting, only picking grains at their optimal ripeness (from intense reds to wine colors). She carried out drying on screens and/or mesh.
