Description
The Golden Dream La Montana 2 farm is located at the Chalatenango department, on the northwest of El Salvador , at the Alotepec-Metapan mountain range. This region is probably the most recent place where coffee has been planted in El Salvador . Francisco Alexander Ochoa Romero inherited the farm from his father in 2003, after he came back from a long journey working in the United States. Eventually, he found the golden dream in the place where he was born. Francisco is a good example of a small, hardworking coffee grower who has not neglected his plantation. He knows his family depends on him and his effort. He processed his coffee in the mill belonging to his neighbor, Antonio Aguilar, who also won second place in this COE edition with his farm. The wet milling process, and sun drying on patios, assures excellent quality harvested by Francisco in addition to the close proximity to the beneficio, that allows beans to be depulped only few moments after being picked. He uses organic matter for fertilization, and weed control is done manually. Francisco motivates his workers by paying extra wages for only perfectly ripe coffee cherries and separation of green and immature beans. There are some 60 people employed during harvest time.
