Description

Overview

Santa Julia II farm is located in the Santa Ana department, on the west part of El Salvador , at the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range. This Farm is mainly planted with Typica variety comprising around 65% and leaving the rest of the 45% of the Bourbón variety. For Filadelfo Baires winning this year with 3 of his farms has been a culmination of hard work that has begin to pay off and as he says: “COE is been an awakening among farmers to discover the hidden quality in their coffees”. He feels this year is a memorable experience but he plans to come back next year and win first place, because he thinks he has find the quality needed to win” and adds “the national grower will receive a reward for all the hard work and the debt left from the years of crisis”. For this farmer winning is not a coincidence, he has mastered his cupping skills so that every bean that leaves his farms is cupped by him and his staff. He also believes that he was benefited this year because the picking season was just right and he was able to harvest the coffee at the perfect ripeness unlike previous years. He also thinks that this year his farm was on a low production cycle which might have contributed to the improved bean quality. Filadelfo has also found very rewarding to share his profits with his employees, awarding an employee of the year with a special bonus. He also rewards all workers that throughout the year manage to keep all their kids in school, by covering all expenses paid by them, thus contributing to eradicate child labor.
