Description

Overview

El Trapiche farm belonged in the beginnings of the 20th century to Dona Juana Menendez de Magana daughter of General Francisco Menendez, one of El Salvador ’s most known presidents. Inherited then by his sons Gustavo and Enrique Magana Menendez and then down to Dona Juana Guillermina Magana de Salinas, she finally handed it down to her four children: Carlos, Enrique, Graciela and Manuel Salinas Magana. The farm located in the Apaneca –Ilamatepec Mountain range, at the cantones De La Otra Banda y Palo Verde in Apaneca is cultivated entirely with Bourbón coffee. They have been producing gourmet coffee for the last five years. They follow cultural practices such as: selective pruning, weed control, fertilizations, etc provide job for some 30 permanent workers and their families. The Salinas Magana family also believes in the social aspect on growing coffee, so they help in the development of the community surrounding the farm such as helping the school and fixing community roads. This is their first time participating in COE. They decided to try after seeing how other neighboring farms won in previous years, becoming clear that one of the main objectives of this program is really effective. Now they are very happy to be among this year COE winners.
