El Campo Farm is located in El Cedral, Las Vegas, Santa Barbara. The principal crop of this region is coffee with a temperature range of 12 to 21°C, located next to Los Andes within the buffer zone of National Park of Santa Barbara Mountain, “PANAMOSAB”. Coffee growers here have a group called Special Coffees of “Maroncho” and also belong to AHPROCAFE. Tourism is also a big part of this community, hiking trails and extraordinary landscapes. In Los Naranjos, a community nearby, one can visit an eco-archeological national park were the Lenca civilization flourished. Extensive gardens filled with orchids and heliconias, diversity of birds such as woodpeckers, parrots and humming birds, famous for fresh brewed flavored beer and soft drinks made of the fruits grown in those same mountains. Miguel works his farm using different techniques for managing coffee, weed and pest control, shade regulation, fertilization, selective trimming of the trees, manual harvest, wet mill and solar dryers. About his familyHe began the farm with his family, 25 years ago and in spite of his age, he dedicates solely to growing coffee. His family consists of his wife and five kids. What is the secret of his success? To dedicate fully to growing coffee and to follow recommendations of technical experts. How do you feel being a winner of the Cup of Excellence Honduras 2010?He feels that it is a great challenge and requires perseverance to make it to the COE winners. He considers it is an honor to show the world his great coffee and the coffees produced in this region.
