Description

About the farm:

The farm “La Bendicion” is located in Los Planes community, municipality of Las Mans, Department of Nueva Segovia. I called it La Bendicion because I recognize that is a blessing from the God. The farm is on 1300 m altitude above the sea level; an area of pine forest and a fresh air. I inherited the farm from my father; at the beginning was only 1 mz cultivated with coffee and I had to revitalize it. My six brothers inherited as well 1 mz each but since they didn’t want to cultivate the land they sold to me their property and thus today I have 11 mz in total, from which I obtain 200 QQ (approximately 18 QQ per manzana). The varieties that I have are caturra, maracatura y maragogype. It is already 18 years that I m cultivating this farm.

About his family:

My family is composed of my wife, 3 sons, 1 daughter and myself.

What is the secret of your success?

The secret is in the effort and dedication every successive year to obtain bigger and better production. To this we have to add the importance of all the production process (technical assistance, selective harvest, de-pulping, water, fermentation time, washing and selection, sun drying as well as the proper work with care and the involvement of a team group that make possible the chain (planting, variety, fertilization, picking, fermentation, drying, cupping, etc).

How do you feel being a winner of the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua 2010?

First of all I feel happy and lucky that between all the producers on national level, having on mind that our product is verified by national and international juries, we have been classified between the 27 finalist winners.

His experience in the Cup of Excellence:

The Cup of Excellence is of a great benefit for each coffee producer. With each competition we were able to show to the world the quality coffee that Nicaragua has, and this facilitate us to manage better our farms, better treatment of the workers, and in general better quality of life by obtaining high prices at the electronic auction.
