Description

Overview

Ana Eugenia, a fourth generation of coffee growers; became involved with the farm in 2002, due to world coffee crisis; Ana and her two sisters decided to help their parents work to keep this dear land in the Alotepec-Metapan Mountain Range. El Pinar, a fraction of the original Plantation “El Pinar”, is a legacy planted by her grandfather, Juan Ramon Calderon, in the 70’s. Her father Rene Dominguez H. continued the tradition of the Luna family and persisted in developing the coffee plantation under pine and oak trees supporting the progress and development for the Metapan Area. This shaded Coffee Farm is performed yearly soil analyses, cultural practices, pruning, weed control and fertilization. These activities employ 15 workers from March through September. At harvest, December to February the number of jobs increase to 50 workers. Nursery is done to replace damaged plants, when necessary. In the family, it is a tradition and priority to donate and help in the development of the community; at Caserio El Pinar we find school facilities, football field, and Catholic Church. In the year 2000, the family cooperated with the municipal government to have electricity available for the community. This special lot for the CoE competition was selected by a small group of skilled pickers and was milled the eco mill “Beneficio Alotepec” with clean stream washed, sun dried in Aerated Beds. Ana is very proud to compete for the second time in Cup of Excellence program as it is great motivation for her and all the coffee industry chain as it is a rewarding tool that promotes worldwide knowledge of high quality of Salvadorian coffee.
