Description

Overview:

I was born in the city of Pasto, Narino, Colombia and now I am 58 years old. My wife is called Janeth and I have two children, Jorge Esteban who is 21 and Aura Maria who is 18 years old. I inherited from my parents the love for the land.
As soon as I had the opportunity of having some resources, my first investment was buying a farm in the municipality of “La Florida” (Narino), having a great value for me because the purchase was done the day of birth of my older son, Jorge Esteban.
Following the reactivation of Galeras Volcano in 2005, the area where the farm was located was declared as “disaster zone”, reason why the Government bought us all those properties. Having to detach ourselves from the farm and more in those circumstances, affected my whole family and we refuse to stop enjoying the countryside, so we insisted on being able to acquire another land.
We had heard a lot about the quality of the ground of the township of Matituy, also located in the municipality of “La Florida”, very recognized in the department as well as in the entire country because of the excellent quality of the coffees that were produced in the zone. This was demonstrated by the places that has occupied the coffee of this zone in previous years in the contest of Cup of Excellence.
The residents of this area are dedicated almost exclusively to coffee. Fortunately and I could say, as a compensation we could acquire a farm in that zone, with six useful hectares in which we have focus our endeavor in coffee production but with the vision of having the best quality.
In this labor I have had the support of my family and I am lucky because my son Jorge Esteban likes everything related with land as much or more than me. We have being able to improve the production of the coffee that was planted in the farm and we have planted new coffee trees, striving on buying and producing the best seeds and having nowadays around 17.000 plants. Our integration with the residents of the zone has been very good and we have had the opportunity of linking with great workers, both men and women.
We aim to continue adapting and sowing the ground that is not yet exploited, always guided to the coffee production each time of better quality, improving as possible all processes of growing, the harvesting, processing and drying of coffee.
My son Jorge Esteban is studying Agroindustrial Engineering and has proposed to apply his knowledge on coffee’s technification that would be of benefit not only for us but also for the inhabitants of the zone, because they can take advantage of the improving opportunities.
