La Falda - Colombia 2013 Verified listing

I am José Arcadio Rueda, I am 39 years old, I was born in the municipality of Urrao - Antioquia, I am living with my family that is composted by my wife Marbeluz Bermudez and my son Santiago he is 14 years old. Since I was little I being working in coffee. My parents are coffee producers as well and they have taught us the passion for coffee.

My wife is in love with coffee and her happiness is accomplishing all the activities we develop in the farm daily. Together with our son Santiago we cultivate coffee, tomatoes, beans and other products for internal consumption in the farm and help us to receive at the same time other incomes beside coffee. With the support of several organizations we have participate in projects for the improvement of our living conditions and the protection of the environment.

For our family the most important is to work in agriculture and coffee, protecting water recourses the rainforest so our children and grandchildren find intact all the beauty that the landscape of Urrao has. Since 16 years we bought some ground in the village and together with my wife, we started coffee and agriculture.  Today we have 9500 coffee trees and we are planning to plant other 8000 this year.

Five years ago we were invited to participate in a regional coffee contest and we were the winners of the first position, due to this we get motivation to keep in the participation every year, and this year we also obtain the second position between 2800 coffee farmers from the whole Antioquia department.

For my family the success of being recognized as one of the best coffees of Antioquia and of Colombia is a great satisfaction and when someone ask me about what we do?, we answered that first is love, joy, desire for producing high quality coffee. We want that the coffee form our farm gets to be well known in other parts of the world, we also dream planting more coffee and keeping working hard for quality so we could sell it at better prices.
