Description
El Alto de Montecopey is located at the top of the Bandera de Dota coffee plantation. Its altitude is close to 1900 meters above sea level. From the highest point, there is a great view of the Dota Valley and the green mountains of the Tarrazú Coffee Region.
Its name has double meaning for the family. El Alto, was the name of a grocery store which was the family business for over 30 years. This was our the primary economic support and from this business came the help to buy the coffee plantations. This name represents the love that we have for the business as well as being the highest point of Monte Copey.
When the family bought the farm it was used for livestock care. Coffee trees were planted and 4 years later the farm gave its first harvest of high quality coffee, which allowed us to participate in Cup of Excellence.
This young plants are very well maintained with monthly plans of fertilization to achieve a high density coffee with characteristics that are Typical of a high area of Dota.
After the third year of processing coffee in our own micromill, we had the courage and leaving all our fears behind, participated in Cup of Excellence, a program that years ago, as simple producers, we saw as an impossible dream. We can now say that thanks to God and great effort and sacrifice there is no dream we cannot accomplish.
Cup of Excellence was the program that motivated and gave us the push to start with the milling process after listening, year after year, the stories of the winning coffees and their producers.
