Guacamaya - [O] - Honduras 2013 Verified listing

The farm is located in the Guacamaya community, 20 kilometers from Valle de Angeles, this is a touristic zone, where the best hand craft is fabricated and traded in this Honduras country. It is located 45 minutes from Tegucigalpa, the Capital of Honduras .

COMISAJUL is a cooperative conformed by 530 small coffee producers. Besides coffee they produce vegetables, fruits, potatoes, corn and beans. San Juancito, where is located COMISAJUL was a successful miner community during the colonization, but when the miner business ended, the economy of this community collapsed. The coffee production arises as an alternative for local people. All the producers and their families are involved in production and preparation of coffee which is sold in local markets and also is exported.

All the member producers work in activities of farm maintenance, picking and processing of the coffee.

What natural resources conservation practices do you follow in the farm?
1- All the coffee is under shade with fruit and timber trees.
2- Coffee plantations are located in a water production area. Thus they have to make protection activities.
3- The coffee wastewaters are carried to an oxidation pond and the decomposed pulp is used in the farm as organic fertilizer.

What is the secret for winning this competition (describe the preparation process of the competing lot)?
1 – The San Juancito mountain has ideal environmental conditions for coffee production.
2 – Collecting only the red and milling the same day is a decisive factor to get a good quality coffee.
