Description

Cristal farm is located in the El Sauce community in the municipality of Santa Bárbara. It has an altitude of 1550 and 1,650 meters above sea level sorounded by a large forest and many mountains, has a wet and cold climate, with plenty of rain during the year.

The tradition of coffee cultivation for the Madrid family goes back to his grand father. He and his brothers are part of 3rd generation of coffee growers, all of them are in the business since they were very young.

Esteban told us:

I started cultivating coffee with my father in 1985. I have also dedicated to the cultivation of vegetable gardens.

My family is made up by my wife 2 sons and a daughter, coffee is our main source of income.

I manage my farm by myself, but in the coffee harvest, I hire around 20 temporary workers.

I'm proud to be a special farmer, we do a good farm management in order to get an excellent coffee berry and follow all the required norms for a good clean milling process and sun drying the coffee on a cement patio.

I have participated in the cup of Excellence since 2006 and most of the times I have entered the competition with the international jury level.

The Madrid´s have been growing over the years, now they have installed a small but complete wet and dry mill into the farm, where they all be able to do the complete process of the cherries. They have: Ceramic tiles to his washing station, a motor operated depulper, a patio and solar driers to improve parchment drying.
