Description

Juan is an inspiring example, his parents died when he was very young and they left him in charge of his brothers. He had to hold back his desire to attend school because he had to assume the role of father and mother to her little brothers, he devoted himself since childhood to work as a laborer for others and was slowly learning the art of producing corn and beans which is the main diet of the Honduran peasant. Over the years he has had the opportunity to learn how to produce coffee and everything about production.

Juan hasn’t had the opportunity to learn how to write and read but for him this is not a disability to make his dreams come true. With a lot of work he save some money and he bought a small parcel and began to cultivate their own dreams. With the help of IHCAFE fulfill his dream of being a coffee producer.

His small farm "Palo Seco" in the village of the same name in Masaguara, Intibucá, became his and his family's main economic support, but Juan continued saving money to buy another plot to increase his production area and to produce corn and beans for his family.

He cultivates Catuai variety but thanks to a good nutrition management and the support of IHCAFE it has not had many problems with rust. The climate and soil conditions at 1675 meters make a favorable area for coffee production.

For many years, Juan sold their coffee to local middlemen without obtaining an appropriate price for the quality of their coffee. Despite of his skepticism IHCAFE convinced him to prepare a lot of coffee to participate in COE. Today Juan is still incredulous of this achievement and now is committed to improve every day.
