Description

Colipampa History Located in the community of Chicachoropata in the Irupana province, Nicolas Carrasco’s farm is situated at an altitude of 1954 meters above sea level. Nicolas became involved in coffee at a very young age helping his parents with the harvest and care of the coffee plants. Over time he became very interested in the quality of coffee and its varieties. Having participated for the first time in the Cup of Excellence competition, Nicolas was enthusiastic and hopeful- “I never imagined getting fourth place; I am very happy and content. I have so many dreams and goals: to increase my production and renew my old coffee plants, to be able to export to other countries, and I also want to invest in the education and health of my children and my wife.” As a representative of the CORACA Iurapana, a community based, farmer owned business, Nicolas is working to help other farmers in the CORACA to improve quality control. “I want all of my companeros to be motivated to keep planting more coffee, but quality coffee, because we want to keep moving forward and with coffee we can. For this reason, I’m going to set the example and keep planting coffee.” Nicolas has two hectares of Criollo and catui coffee and plans to invest his earnings from the COE auction in renovating his coffee plantation and planting an additional hectare of coffee. Quality Practices The ripe coffee cherry harvest is manually done, and at the end of the afternoon, all the coffee is collected and goes to the processing plant of the CORACA Irupana, where it is processed. Drying is done on solar dryers.
