Description

About the farm:

The farm “El Esfuerzo” is located in the Quisuli community, in the municipality of Mozonte, Department of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua . The farm is located on altitude of 1550 m above sea level with a rainfall of 1700 mm per year, average temperature of 21ºC and sandy lime loam. The farm is surrounded by dense mountains, crystal water springs, with a great flora and fauna which keep equilibrium of the ecosystem. I inherited the farm from my father in 1998, and from that time I have been working following his advices and all that I have learned from him. The total area of my farm is 8.39 hectares, out of which 5.59 hectares are with coffee plants, variety red catuai and maracatura. At the present we produce 250 qq.

About his family:

My family is composed of 6 members: my parents, my three brothers and myself.

What is the secret of your success?

The secret is in the proper management of the coffee plantation, from the blossom until the bean ripening, very selective picking (only the ripe cherries), following the good management of the coffee at the wet mill, and the important proper management at the dry mill. To reach this quality, apart the above mentioned, the very good climate conditions that the farm has is definitely important part for the production of high quality coffee.

How do you feel being a winner of the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua 2010?

I am really excited that my farm reached such a good rank in the Cup of Excellence competition. But more than gaining the first place is the feeling that one dream became a truth. For one moment, when they were calling number five, number four…, I was thinking “now is impossible to win any place”. When I heard my name with a first place reward was a great moment that I will never forget in my life.

His experience in the Cup of Excellence:

Cup of Excellence is a great event, great competition, and the most important one in the coffee sector in Nicaragua that gives us an opportunity to participate in a competition and be able to show to the world the quality of our coffee. It is not only about the award it is also the focus to the improvement of the coffee quality and the development of our country once our coffee has been identified by the most demanding buyers in the world.
