Description

Mahembe Coffee washing station is located in Mahembe Sector, Nyamasheke District, and Western Province one of the district where suitable coffee growing conditions such as soil, altitude, rainfall and various other climatic factors are found. Nyamasheke’s distinct microclimates and high quality processing in our washing station make Mahembe coffee of the highest standard.  The washing station started operating since 2010.

Apart from the Mahembe CWS owned coffee plantations, the CWS is working closely with coffee farmers in the neighborhood who are grouped into TWITEZIMBERE MAHEMBE association with a good number of women accounting for 70%.  Coffee growers and members of TWITEZIMBERE MAHEMBE association place a high value on growing, maintenance and production of high quality cherries.

Quality processes at Mahembe CWS

The quality of our coffee is a result of processing through a wet mill.  Red ripe handpicked Cherries are pulped using a machine, the beans are then fermented to break down the mucilage layer, washed in water, then sorted and sun dried on raised tables.  Our focus on  excellence during the whole processing stages help us to achieve the highest quality fully washed coffee through a  greater control of the fermentation process to completely remove the mucilage and ensure that the flavor of our coffee is not affected. This is monitored by our experienced staff on managing quality in specialty coffee.

*Mahembe has obtained several Cup of Excellence awards 2010, 2012, 2014 and this year 2015
