Cup of Excellence
Farm Las Barrancas or The Canyons is located in the community of Cuapan, Huitzilan de Serdán, Puebla. The coffee is grown and processed by the Cortes Aco family. It is located approximately at a height of 1160 meters above sea level. Its dimensions of the land are 3 and a half hectares of which only 2 hectares are planted with coffee and the rest of the region's own forest with oak trees, ocote and ayakouite. The name of the canyons is because it is located in the middle of three river streams that give moisture to the land all year round.
The coffee varietal in the farm is completely Marsellesa, with the 2020-2021 harvest being its third year of production. Within the coffee plantation there are fruit trees such as orange, banana, guava and sugar cane. The harvest months are from December to March with selective cutting of ripe coffee cherries. We have two certifications: Café Practices and Fair Trade which have taught us to be friendly with nature by protecting trees, land and waterways.
The small farm is part of the family inheritance of my father who not only left me the land, but also the love for planting and harvesting coffee. I am very grateful that he taught me this noble work and that I, in the same way, transmit it to the next generation.
Las Barrancas farm is its second participation in a cup of excellence, which is a satisfaction since it is the second year I am in the cup of excellence winners. I have had a wealth of experiences about specialty coffees, as a producer I am convinced that in order to have a fair payment for our coffee It is necessary to carry out the procedures with high quality margins, from selective cutting, adequate fermentation time and care in drying.
