Description
Los Naranjos Café, S.A. de C.V., is a company founded by three friends: David Velásquez, Manuel Olivares, and Sigfredo Corado. They came together after high school and pursued their individual paths. David established a successful business in Business, Accounting, and Financial Services. Manuel found success as a businessman in the U.S. Sigfredo, from a coffee-producing family, became an esteemed agronomist specializing in Coffee Production, focusing on Communities and Sustainability Impact.
Driven by their shared interest in coffee, Sigfredo and David started producing coffee as a hobby. Unexpectedly, their coffee turned out to be of exceptional quality. When they shared their project at a class reunion, Manuel expressed his interest in joining, as he had been seeking an investment opportunity that could benefit his hometown communities. What began as a hobby soon transformed into a well-established company.Los Naranjos Coffee owns six farms located in the Apaneca-Ilamatepec Mountain Range, spanning Sonsonate, Santa Ana, and Ahuachapan Department. They have also established an advanced coffee mill and a premium coffee lab, attracting visitors such as ambassadors, international coffee buyers, and tourists.
One of Los Naranjos' primary goals is to make El Salvador one of the top coffee producers globally. To achieve this, they emphasize knowledge-sharing and have developed the Entre Café Experience, a hostel located within one of their farms. The experience aims to educate visitors about coffee production, taking them to the fields and the mill to witness the effort required to produce the coffee they enjoy.
Los Naranjos is deeply committed to the environment and communities. They believe that coffee production must prioritize consciousness and sustainability. In collaboration with Catholic Relief Services, Los Naranjos helped establish the RENACER School in 2019. They provided Finca Noruega Farm to host a coffee development center that assists communities in selling their coffee through environmentally friendly practices. Los Naranjos works closely with small producers, helping them export their coffee worldwide and currently shipping over four full containers annually.
Los Naranjos' dedication to improving the quality of coffee has resulted in the production of unique and exceptional coffees, winning COE 2020 with Finca Los Angeles and Finca Noruega. None of this would have been possible without the collective effort of all the collaborators involved.
History of the farm
This enchanting farm was carefully chosen for its remarkable ability to cultivate exceptional coffees. When Los Naranjos acquired the farm in 2017, it was adorned with aged coffee plants and had suffered from a lack of proper maintenance. However, nestled amidst its splendid altitude, microclimate, and fertile soil, lay immense potential. With great determination, the decision was made to uproot the old plants and introduce an array of new varieties. Today, Noruega proudly boasts over 10 distinct coffee varieties, each contributing to its rich tapestry of flavors. Through relentless dedication to crafting Specialty Coffee, Noruega achieved an extraordinary triumph in 2020: capturing the prestigious Cup of Excellence with a truly mesmerizing Bourbon Natural Anaerobic.
