Description

Our Huaches Zurita family has owned the La Lucuma farm since 1984. Initially we had 2 hectares and in 2005 it was expanded to 6.5 hectares. Since we started growing coffee on our farm, we have been interested in the production of high quality coffee and due to the altitude at which the farm is located, varieties such as caturra, typica and pache have been grown. In 2012 our farm was affected by rust, so the Catimor variety was introduced, which reduced our quality in the cup and in subsequent harvests. The passion for quality and the dream of being a prominent producer at the national level led us to look for new varieties, so in 2017 0.5 hectares of geisha variety were installed, which has meant a new direction for the farm and our family.

Coffee has given us many joys and difficult moments, but with a lot of work, passion and with an open mind to constant learning and innovation, this crop has given us sustenance for our family and allowed us to improve our quality of life.
In 2016 we acquired seeds of the geisha variety motivated by the need to experiment with new cup profiles and try to compete to produce the best coffees in the country. In 2017, 0.5 hectares of the geisha variety were planted on our farm. The beginning was complicated, since the management for this variety is different from those we had on the farm, but with appropriate advice, a lot of patience and work, in the In 2020, the first harvest was obtained and a very satisfactory result in the cup. In 2021, the first division took place in the Cajamarca regional contest, in which we achieved third place. In 2022, in the last contest, we obtained second place, exceeding 91 points in the cup. All of this has motivated us to participate in the prestigious national competition La Taza de Excelencia this year, 2023, and compete for the award for the best coffee in Peru.
