Description
São Geraldo began with Geraldo and Maria when they married in 1998. In this year they planted their first plot of coffee on the lands of Geraldo’s paternal grandfather and the seedlings were a gift from his mother. She is a third-generation producer and has worked with coffee since she was young. Her first steps were in the coffee fields and her first word was “coffee.” Joking aside, she always worked with coffee. The producer’s son, Gustavo, will be a fourth-generation producer, Geraldo himself is a second-generation coffee farmer. The parents help with everything on the property and nowadays Gustavo actively participates in all the processes from the management part of caring for the fields. In all, the property is of a good size. The producers take care of it themselves. Maria helps with the harvest, post-harvest processing and management. She also handles the shed and patios.
Gustavo has actively helped on the property since turning 18, this year makes 5 years that he’s been helping. The parents allow and permit him to take courses on specialty coffee production and today this is his main responsibility. This is the fourth year in which they produce specialty coffees and their first time participating in the Cup of Excellence. This year they gathered the experiences of the past 3 years and applied them to this lot. This was the first lot picked this harvest. The coffee was picked selectively in sieves, taken to African beds daily. The lots were separated into 2 and 3 days, 2 lots per week. When the humidity reached 18%, the lots were stored in a shed. After 40 days the coffee returned to the sun to reach the ideal humidity. Then technical reports of the lots were made, similar ones were joined, thus resulting in this 4-bag lot.
