Description

Overview

Montes Everest is part of Finca El Ingenio de Los Ausoles, from the Urrutia’s Estate Coffee farms, a family own business whose origins date back to the 1870’s, five generations ago, when Mr. Juan Urrutia began planting the best Arabica coffee seeds to obtain an exquisite cup of coffee. Nowadays, Gustavo Urrutia oversees this particular farm with the support of all the family members.
Finca Montes Everest, has been finalist in the COE two times, it possesses ideals conditions for producing a very particular high quality coffee, taking advantage of its volcanic soil and few natural geysers, rich in organic material and natural potassium. The Urrutia’s commitment to social and environmental initiatives is evident; they keep 70 hectares of virgin forest next to the coffee plantation, together make up a unique scenario of a limited coffee production developed in El Salvador . They also follow the Rain Forest Alliance management for farms but they are not certified. Finca Montes Everest is grown to Pacamara variety since 2006, before that, the farm used to have a 75 year old plantation. The farm is managed under conventional practices, such as 3 fertilizations per year, foliar application and use of pulp to improve soil conditions.
Since the Urrutia family is working under the estate farm coffee producers modality, they also exporter their own coffee and personally control all the production stages - farms and the San Antonio coffee mill - thereby providing assurance for delivering the highest standards of quality, flavor, consistency and traceability year after year, cup after cup. They feel that because of the Cup of Excellence their milling process have become very important, and they are trying to improve it each year. The lot for COE was processed under the washed method, with 10 hours of natural fermentation and sun-dried during 6 days on clay patios. The farm works provide jobs for hundreds of workers each year, the Urrutia family also provides free water from a natural mountain spring to more than 6,000 people that live in the community below their coffee plantations. They also support and asylum and they have a coming plan to support a school for adult education. Their forest also serves as a release sanctuary for endangered species rescued from abusive owners or poachers.
