Description
Farm
Histroy Located in the municipality of Araponga, State of Minas Gerais, Sitio do Bone was named after the chief tourist attraction of the region (the Bone Peak), which also has several waterfalls with crystal clear waters and high altitude, excellent for the production of specialty coffees. The farm was acquired by Vanderlei Paulo Martins from his father, Mr. Raimundo Martins, in 1998. Since then he has been involved with coffee plantations, taking advantage of the excellent soil conditions, cold climate, altitude of 1200m and location. In addition to coffee growing, Vanderlei Paula Martins and his father cultivate the practice of tourism, maintaining the property clean and respecting nature, offering places for camping and meals (Remanso Bone).
Coffee processing system
Coffee is picked manually on cloth, from July onwards, and the beans are immediately transported to the processing area, where they are washed, and separated from the boia beans [dry beans of coffee that float in the washers]. Subsequently, they go through the pulper, and then the beans are taken to a suspended terrace, where they are spread out in fine layers, and always turned until they arrive at the right level of humidity. After some days, the beans will lose their humidity, and can be involved by thicker layers, when it will reach the ideal conditions to be stored. Concern with quality Since the implementation of the coffee plantations, Mr. Vanderlei Martins has been investing in agricultural techniques applied under the guidance of specialized agronomists, hence obtaining healthy and productive plantations and crops. Storage is structured and coordinated by specialists of the region, engaged in obtaining quality improvements. Vanderlei attends courses, talks and lectures to develop the most recent and advanced techniques for his plantations.
