Description

Overview

The farm belongs to two partners who reside in Rio de Janeiro. It was acquired in December 2001, year in which the first 30,000 coffee nursery trees were planted. In 2002, another 66,000 thousand nursery trees were planted totaling 96,000 coffee trees in production at the property, located at an altitude of 950 meters, in a mountainous region with tropical altitude climate, in southern Minas Gerais. In the environmental area, an Agronomist is responsible for recommending the required measures to be taken. He also provides technical support concerning care with the water during coffee pulping stage. The property has many water sources of excellent drinking water quality. Two houses were built recently for the employees of the farm, with running water and electricity, where the farm keepers and their families live. Each house has a home orchard where no pesticides, herbicides or similar chemicals are used. Their children go to the local public school, and are transported to and from school by a school bus.

Coffee processing system

Coffee is picked selectively, and preference is given to the ripe (cherry) beans, that after being washed and separated are pulped in the farm’s own equipment. The beans are sun-dried on a terrace or a rotary drier, and when the beans reach their ideal humidity level, they are deposited in bins to rest, where they will remain until they are prepared to be bagged, bagged, and forwarded to the cooperative to be stored. Concern with quality The coffee-processing infrastructure of the property consists of washer, pulper, rotary dryer, concrete and suspended terraces, bins for the coffee to rest, huller and a 2006 tractor. The producers are members of COCARIVE – Cooperativa Regional dos Cafeicultores do Vale do Rio Verde [Vale do Rio Verde Coffee Growers Regional Cooperative], and of the Rural Association of Carmo de Minas. In 2004, part of the Sitio Redinha coffee production was classified among the finalists of the Brazil Cup of Excellence Competition, promoted by BSCA.
