Cafe AIPEAD I HistoryJulian Chambi Apaza is a young producer with a beautiful family. Virginia, his wife, has two boys, Jose Luis and Kevin, and two girls Joselin and Jenny. He has been producing coffee for six years, and has no plans to give it up. “A lot of producers have left it behind. Not that many of us have kept going. Coffee is good because it is beginning to be recognized on an international level. This is good coffee because of the altitude, and the price is good. There is a market for it.” He decided to participate in the competition because other producers from his organization, AIPAED, told him about the results that they had achieved. “I take care of my children with coffee, and I’m happy for that. The competition has changed Caranavi and my colony. Now they’ve encouraged us. They’ve increased the coffee. They’ve inspired us to manage it well.” Even though he doesn’t know what he will earn for his coffee, he wants to spend the money on a better house for his family and, following the example of past winners, on improving his coffee production to compete again next year. He is sure that this will make him happy, for the economic stability of his family.
