Description

Cafe David HistorySantiago Mamani’s family works together. His wife, his three daughters and two sons all help in the coffee plantation and processing plant. Santiago taught his children how to handle coffee, according to everything that he had learned in the Cooperativa CIANA, and the experience he earned in prior competitions where he participated with his colleagues. This year, he decided to participate alone to try his luck. He did not know how to do it, but he received a lot of help from the radio program “The Coffee Hour”, which explained the inscription process. “I didn’t know how to participate. Listening to the radio, I learned how to do it.” Now, Santiago is very proud to be among the winners. He believes that all his work has yielded fruit. “making specialty coffees is good. It’s good to manage coffee well. It’s good to have quality.” Santiago wants to encourage other producers to participate. “To my comrades who have been left behind, without earning, I say: ‘don’t loose faith. Next year, if you keep it up, you’ll be able to win.’ Others say it’s hard to manage coffee. It’s not hard. You just have to show a little interest. “ Santiago wants to share the prize with his whole family because everyone worked to achieve it. He told us “I don’t want my children to be left like me, working in the fields. I want to buy them a computer, because we worked together. I costs a lot to buy their things, and also to save for the future.”
