Blessed with ideal conditions for producing high quality coffee, Montes Everest takes advantage of its volcanic soil, rich in organic material and natural potassium. It is situated at 1550 mts. above sea level. Its agreeable temperatures of between 12 and 24 Cº and its fresh clean air circulating from a virgin forest facing the coffee plantation, are well suited to grow coffees of fine quality, aroma and flavor. The Urrutia family history goes back 4 generations to the end of the XIXth century when Juan Urrutia Salazar acquired the property with the idea of producing one the best coffees for the world. At present the family of Gustavo: his parents and his brothers all work full time growing coffee of the highest quality under the Urrutia’s Estate Coffee brand, an enterprise which markets its product by bringing together coffee from their farms. Finca Miralvalle and El Zapote are family farms that have also won Cup of Excellence in past editions showing their commitment to quality. Montes Everest farm also ranked 30th place at 2004 El Salvador Cup of Excellence, but that year it entered a Bourbón variety lot. Quality is guaranteed in all stages of the process beginning with the correct selection of the seedlings to be planted, and then carefully supervising the appropriate husbandry which includes manual weeding, pruning and crop selection of only the biggest and most mature coffee beans, which are later wet milled and sun dried on brick patios at the Beneficio San Antonio. The Urrutia family has always provided its employees with all the basic services required by law as well as giving food, medical services and when necessary specialized medical care in a private clinic in the capital. The farm works provide jobs for hundreds of workers each year, the Urrutia family also provides free water from a natural mountain spring to more than 6,000 people that live in the community below their coffee plantations. They also support and asylum and they have a coming plan to support a school for adult education. As active members and supporters of the Salvadoran Zoo Foundation FUNZEL, their forest also serves as a release sanctuary for endangered species rescued from abusive owners or poachers.
