Eugenio Portuguez Hernández
The Portuguez Calderón family, residents of La Piedra de Rivas de Pérez Zeledón, own the El Alto farm, which has an altitude of 1,650 to 2,000 meters above sea level. The farm was acquired by purchase and in 1990 began the development of the coffee activity; previously the farm was pasture. Coffee production has been a family tradition for many years and for several generations. In 2008, the Los Crestones micromill began operations. This initiative has motivated to increase the planting of new varieties to create high quality microlots in yield and cup quality.
The lot participating in the Cup of Excellence is Villa Sarchi variety with a natural process.
The purpose of participating in the Cup of Excellence is to achieve added value by improving the economy of the families involved in the project, as well as making the coffee from the Brunca - Chirripó region known as high quality coffee producing area.
