Pedro Sagastume Enamorado is the owner of Finca Los Quetzales, located at 1600 m.a.s.l. in the area of El Dorado in Santa Bárbara. The name of the farm comes from the many birds living among the natural barriers of the farm, an unique and distintictive feature of his farm. Pedro represents the third generation of coffee producers. The farm was acquired in 2013 and is managed by the family. Each member has a particular activity or task to develop and this type of organization has allowed them to expand, both in producing area as well as in the infrastructure necessary to process coffee. It grows varieties with very good cup profile, such as Pacas, Catuai, SL28, Geisha and Pacamara. Pedro employs 25 people who collaborate permanently, including seven members of his own family. By harvest season, he hires another forty temporary workers to help with the work of the farm. He prefers to provide employment to residents of the nearby area, to contribute to the development of it. The farm is managed under different and additionally, it performs soil and water resource conservation practices. Its dedication to produce quality coffee has contributed to obtain strategic partners, especially in Europe. “One of the factors that makes my coffee different is the variety, the altitude and the taste of coffee. This is reason we decided to participate in the Cup of Excellence. It would be a dream to win the cup of excellence for our family, our community and our department. We would solve our economic part and it would be of great help to us to continue improving in various aspects. Our participation in the cup has been beautiful, it is a very nice experience and we have managed to be among the Top 30".
