4 - Coop. Agricola Integral Chicoj - Guatemala 2024 (Experimental)

The Cooperativa Agrícola Integral Chicoj, R.L., founded on October 3, 1984, located in the municipality of Cobán, Alta Verapaz, conformed by small producers among men and women of the Q'eqchí' ethnic group, the production of coffee constitutes the main productive activity of the associates. The organizational structure of the Cooperative is made up of the General Assembly, the Board of Directors, the Surveillance Committee, local committees and the support of institutions, including ANACAFÉ and FEDECOVERA, R.L. The legal representation of the Cooperative is exercised by the President of the Board of Directors. Gender equality and youth participation are fundamental pillars in the sustainable development of the cooperative.
The current production is under an agroforestry system to minimize the impact of climate change in the plantations, which is why it is in association with species such as: ingas, Musaceae and timber species of high economic value.
The coffee varieties grown in the production unit are: Anacafé 14, Sarchimor, Catuaí and Caturra; this one being susceptible to the coffee rust disease (Hemileia vastatrix), but despite the climatic factors, it continues to be cultivated on a small scale by small producers and is precisely the variety that makes up the lot presented in the competition.
