History of the farm
The fields of Fazenda São Benedito are in the city of Carmo de Minas, in the south of Minas Gerais, a region with unique characteristics for the production of specialty coffees.
The property is farm of a familial society that has been producing coffee for more than a century. This passion has been passed from generation to generation within the family, which is part of Grupo Sertão, which currently holds the world record score (95.85) for a Cup of Excellence coffee lot produced by Francisco Isidro D. Pereira, followed by pela Fazenda São Benedito, which was the runner-up with a score of 92.65.
Antônio José Junqueira Villela graduated in civil engineering from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), but he has already been working with rural activities for 30 years. While he was still young, the student chose to follow the coffee growing life and today he is proud of the path he chose. Mr. Villela became the president of APROCAM (Mantiqueira Coffee Producer Association) an entity that has achieved the Mantiqueira de Minas Designation of Origin (DO) seal, with the goal of ensuring the quality and origin of coffees from the region.
The producer is a member of COCARIVE (Rio Verde Valley Regional Coffee Producer Cooperative) which supports all sectors in the coffee production chain, starting with guidance on crop treatment, machinery and warehousing through commercialization of the beans.
Coffee processing system
The harvest is done by hand, the fruits are picked and taken to the processing center. After washing, drying begins on concrete patios under the sun. Drying is finished in mechanical dryers for better control of humidity. After drying, the coffee rests in rest boxes for around 30 days.
All the coffee produced at São Benedito is monitored, starting with the harvest until warehousing at COCARIVE, thus guaranteeing quality.
In his production process, Antônio unites artisan care with respect for the preservation of the environment
