Description
Abel Manzano Luna is originally from the community of Acateno, part of the municipality of Huitzilan de Serdán, Puebla. His farm, named Ahuateno (which means "place where water abounds"), is located in the northeastern mountains, at coordinates 19.92109° N, 97.70749° W, at an altitude of 1100 meters above sea level.
Ahuateno covers one hectare and has 3200 coffee plants, of which 70% are Obata variety and 30% are Garnica variety. The plants are 6 years old. The farm has produced up to 8 tons of coffee at its peak production.
To provide shade for the coffee plants, there are chalahuite trees that are 8 years old. Additionally, the farm has banana, orange, and papaya plants. The farm is regularly cleaned and pruned, and it is fertilized three times a year. A team of 11 people, including him and his wife, helps to harvest the coffee. The pulping and drying processes are done by him and his wife.
Abel Manzano Luna decided to work in coffee farming because both his grandfather and father were dedicated to coffee, sparking his interest in continuing the family tradition.
