Established on the beginnings of the 1900´s,
Ownership: Mauricio Escalon Pacas.
Las Marias Estate is one of our farms which has an interesting story, The farm belonged to the Escalon family since the beginings of the 1900´s it was planted by Federico and Pedro Escalon. When Federico´s and Pedro´s Father died it was passed to Pedro Escalon and Pedro passed it to his Son Ricardo an his daughter Elisa. At that time Las Marias was divided in 2 portions. Elisas son Pedro selled the farm to a company in the beginnings of the 1990´s, this company planted the farm with Pacas Variety and in some lots they left the old borbons. This company decided to sell the farm and it was at that time that Mauricio Escalon Pacas bought it and it returned to the Escalon Family.
We started to plant new areas and we dicided to sow Pacamara, because of the soil characteristics. Very good productive land. In the past two years the Pacamara was attacked by the Rust Leaf and the production of the lot became almost null. This harvest we saw it that was getting better and it was full of cherries.
As an integrated operation we were very focused on that coffee, so when the first harvest begun we started to cup at the lab and we discovered wonderful thing in it, so we decided to put special attention. The second harvest, the cupping score was better with extra wonderful things, a very clear, sophisticated, elegant coffee. So we decided to get it into the program knowing that the altitude of the farm wasn’t going to help us. But, surprise we were informed that our sample had gone into the International Stage. We were very happy. So I recommend the coffee it is a very stable, consistent and brightful coffee.
