Nare is a 65 years old farmer and father to 17 children. He has been growing coffee on his farm for the last seven years in Bare kebele, Bona Zuria woreda of Sidama region. He grows the 74112 coffee variety on his five hectares of land. He collects up to 30,000 kilograms and processes this into natural dry coffee. In earlier years, Nare would sell his coffee in Hawassa, which is the nearest major city. However, this year (2021) he is seeking to work with an exporter in Addis Ababa to sell his coffee on the international market. “It costs me a lot to grow quality coffee and process it. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to get a price that can fully cover my expense. That is why I entered this competition for a second time - to promote and get a good price for my coffee. My coffee is the only one in my woreda that successfully reached the finalist stage and I am excited to hear that I am one of the top winners in the competition”.
