Description
My name is Julia Ortega Carballo, the story is traced by family support, love, passion and teamwork. Two decades ago I realized how important it is to develop a sustainable and regenerative coffee crop. We began by converting the farm to organic farming; however, this was not enough to help the environment, so we began to integrate agricultural measures to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions throughout the transformation process (seed - roasting).
CO2 is one of the main greenhouse gases, which is why it is important for all people and industries to stabilize our emissions. We consider that producing in a carbon neutral scheme is a concrete action to mitigate climate change, coffee being the second most consumed beverage in the world.
In Finca Los Pinos we cultivated Anacafé 14, Costa Rica 95, Oro Azteca, having as natural shade the ocote pine, oaks, chalahuites (inga spuria), grevilleas (grevillea robusta). The work of women is indispensable for the quality of our coffee, we work as a team where we all contribute what we know, personally I count on the technical and moral assistance of Rubén, my husband, my life partner, the advice of my parents, all of them have contributed so that I can produce this wonderful coffee.
It is worth mentioning that Los Pinos is the first Carbon Neutral coffee farm in Mexico.
THE FARM HAS THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT CERTIFICATIONS:
-LPO MEXICO Certified Organic Coffee by Mayacert Mexico S.C.
-USDA Certified Organic Coffee by Eco-logica International Agency of Costa Rica.
-Carbon Neutral Coffee certified by SGS International.
“I was breathless... I am really excited about this recognition, I have sown dreams and now I have begun to harvest realities. This award is for all of us who work at Finca Los Pinos that bet for a sustainable and high quality coffee, this has been thanks to the support of my family, the Ortega Carballo family, the advice of my parents Doña Candy and Don Aristeo and undoubtedly the technical and moral support of Ruben my partner in life, Congratulations to all who participated in this contest. Thank you very much. AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE COFFEE OF PUEBLA" I participated in COE Mexico 2021, achieving the 15th position with 87.97.
