Description
My name is Samuel Ponce Garcia, originally from the municipality of Zongozotla, Puebla, located in the northeastern sierra of the state of Puebla. According to existing data, this population was founded in the years 1709. Zongozotla is known as a place where many trees abound. de ocote, it also has many scenic attractions, since it is surrounded by high mountains, abundant native vegetation, diversity of animal species and rivers that are home to great economic importance.
My beginnings in coffee:
I started coffee production 10 years ago, with a small farm called Tapula of approximately 0.62 Hectares, which is an inheritance from my parents. I still remember that the year the plot was formally handed over to me was in to the year 2014 approximately, in that year the farm had plants in production of traditional varieties, such as the typica, Bourbon, caturra, pacamara and other varieties, the production of the plot was very low, due to the little care that was given to the coffee plantation and additional in those years were the most difficult for coffee production in the region, caused by the rust disease, which led me to make decisions, far from abandoning production I began to make variety changes, establishing a new plantation of the Marseillaise variety in 2015 starting with a batch of 500 plants, which presented greater tolerance to rust disease. From then on I began to take care of the plot and with the desire to get ahead, I remember that I spent hours in the plot, from very early hours until very late in the afternoon, motivated mainly by having very beautiful plants and apart from wanting to get my plants to start producing at a young age and that is how in the 2017-2018 cycle I had the first coffee cuts of the Marseillaise variety, which with the support of some friends helped me sell my coffee with very attractive prices precisely because they presented the qualities for a specialty coffee.
During the following years I continued to improve now with my own family, together with my wife and in search of new challenges, participating in quality events such as Yara Champion, contests such as pride puebla, obtaining in both cases very good results, in both cases and different years second place.
It is like this, with hard work we got another plot called pazo viejo, where we are now participating with this farm in the cup of excellence program, it is the first time that we do it and I do not rule out that we have a lot to improve in this new challenge, now we no longer only focus our efforts on quality and productivity, today, we seek to preserve the diversity of trees on the farm, conserve the soil, take care of the people who work on the farm and care for the animals that inhabit it. the place.
The farm consists of approximately 0.92 hectares, with a two-year-old plantation of the Marseillaise variety and we believe that there is a lot of potential, but also several additional challenges, such as climate change, which is currently an important issue that forces us to do more. efforts to continue offering and producing the best coffees. The coffee plants have natural shade from marangolo, ayacahuites, oaks, liquidambar and endemic trees. For soil conservation we do individual terraces, planting of temporary shade trees, planting of living barriers. We have now experience in micro lots, we perform periodic evaluations with cuppers and roasters from companies that buy coffee. We harvest just strong red coffee and wine-colored coffee. We specialize in natural process. The drying is done in raisen beds and drying on shade cloth. We storage the coffee in Green Pro bags and palletized. The Harvest months are February, March, April.
Thank you.
