Thewodros Nigusse Gemeda - Ethiopia 2021

Thewodros is a 20 years old farmer who grows the 74112 variety of coffee in Keramo kebele in Bura zone, Sidama region at an altitude of 2300-2400 meters above sea level. A son of coffee farmer Nigussie Gemeda, who was the winner of the 2020 Cup of Excellence Ethiopia, Thewodros follows in his father's footsteps and has been growing coffee for the last three years on 2.5 hectares of land collecting 4000 kilograms. Thewodros processes his coffee into natural coffee and sells it at a set price, to coffee suppliers who operate in his locality. Because of his father’s win last year, Thewodros says everyone in his locality gets a better price for their coffee. “This is one of the reasons why I joined the competition this year. I want to further promote our coffee so each farmer gets a fair share of his labor. I am happy with my score, and to participate in the Cup of Excellence auction,” he said.
