Description
#8 — El Cusuco
Diego Hidalgo Umaña | Mill: Diego Hidalgo Umaña
El Cusuco takes its name from the armadillos — cuscos — that frequent the small river bordering this young micro-lot on the Hidalgo family farm. The lot covers just over 2,000 square meters and is planted with 2,500 Geisha trees, surrounded by a diverse collection of fruit trees that contribute to the health and biodiversity of the ecosystem. The plants were established in 2021, making this one of the youngest lots to qualify for Cup of Excellence in Costa Rica.
Despite its limited harvests, El Cusuco has already demonstrated the kind of quality that comes from privileged growing conditions and careful attention to detail. The Hidalgo family manages this micro-lot with the same precision they apply across their broader operation — selective hand-picking of ripe cherries, meticulous processing, and a genuine pride in what this small piece of land produces. This recognition marks what the family hopes will be the beginning of many years of Cup of Excellence.
