Description
#8 — Leoncio
Manuel Antonio Barrantes Zúñiga | Mill: Cafetalera Herbazú S.A.
Named in honor of the producer's grandfather, Finca Leoncio has been part of the Barrantes family for over 80 years in the highlands of Lourdes de Naranjo. Manuel Antonio Barrantes manages the farm alongside his wife and three daughters, all of whom are actively involved in the operation. The farm grows Villa Sarchí, SL28, and San Roque varieties, with cherries harvested by Panamanian specialists known for their precision in selecting only fully ripe fruit.
Cafetalera Herbazú, founded in 2000, was one of the pioneering micromills in Costa Rica's West Valley and remains a benchmark for quality in the region. The model — where the family controls every stage from cultivation to processing — ensures consistent standards and full traceability across all lots. Finca Leoncio previously won first place in the Cup of Excellence in 2015, and its continued presence among the country's top coffees confirms that the standard set a decade ago remains very much alive.
