Description

The Ocoteno farm, a Nahuatl word that means "place of pines", has been producing coffee of the Marsellesa variety since 2015. Production is carried out under an environmentally friendly system that considers the planting of shade trees such as chalauite, orange, banana, among other and other good practices such as the use of biofertilizers (beneficial microorganisms), which aim to recover the soil and reduce chemical fertilizers by 30%.
Miguel Ronquillo is a third generation producer, and together with his family they are responsible for monitoring the entire process, from taking care of the farms to obtaining parchment coffee. This meticulous care, coupled with constant training, guarantees the quality of a special coffee. The farm is currently innovating fermentation processes through the use of bioreactors and microbial consortiums typical of coffee, to keep the processes more controlled and innocuous. As part of the social responsibility of the farm, its workers are paid salaries above the local average, especially in harvesting activities.
The vision as a family business is to reach a point of balance that allows improving the quality of life of all the workers involved in the production of coffee to maintain the union and the roots of the families that are often affected by migration.
The Ocoteno farm has been in the international winners of Cup of Excellence Mexico contest on three occasions and from the first moment, Miguel has guided other producers from his locality to participate in the contest, which has contributed to positioning the State of Puebla as the second state with the highest number of winners in the international phase. These results motivate the Ronquillo family to continue promoting the production of specialty coffees that allow a profitable coffee activity for more producers. The farm name is Ocoteno, as the first bridge of Coapan Puebla, Huitzilan de Serdán (Puebla) Totutla. The peak of our harvest is in February and March.
