Overview:

Huitz Matig is situaded in the Mountain Range Cuchumatanes, in La Democracia, Huehuetenango, Guatemala . Agricola Huitz Matig is a family farm that has been passed on by three generations.

On May 24, 1957 Dr. Jorge Luis Altuve Arreola, with the help and expertise of one of the first coffee producers of Huehuetenango, Olivio Chavez, bought the farm in a place called Oxbe at Chichinabaj Village, La Democracia, Huehuetenango. He named the Huitz Matig meaning "Cerro Grande" (The big hill).

Upon the death of Dr. Altuve Arreola inherited the estate farm to his two sons, Jorge and Roberto Escobar who for several years managed the farm. When the Altuve Escobar brothers died their children were in charge of the farm. Currently the property is legally represented by Widow Sara Mercedes Chavez.
