Overview

Maria de los Angeles was born in October 22nd of 1951 in the municipality of San Antonio, Tolima state; She made it through the first grade in primary school then she becomes a coffee farmer for familiar tradition. She is the owner of the farm “La Florida” since 1997, but by that time there wasn’t coffee in the property, next year she decided to seed coffee in 0,7ha. Of variety caturra. Today the faro has 3,7 coffee hectares. The age’s average is 6 years. Mrs. Maria de los Angeles Villa is a widow, single mother of 4 children. She is also the manager of the faro with two of her sons. She is felling so proud of being for her whole life a coffee farmer, ready to improve the quality of coffee; thankful to god and to the support of the Extension Service from the Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia . She is a great coffee leader from the village “Alto Cumarral”; she is a member of the Cooperative of Coffee Growers of Meta and she is also a member of the group “ASPROCUBARRAL”. A quote from her: “Mi presente y futuro esta con el cafe para sacar mi familia adelante” – “Mi present and my future are with the coffee to take my family ahead”. Care of the Environment The farm limits with the Natural Reserve “Parque Nacional Natural Sumapaz”, the practices of conservation for the environment are part of the natural context of living for the farmers and neighbours. All of them are working to reduce the negative impact of the activities in their own lands like establishment of alive-barriers in the mountains, conservation of natural water, in the coffee process they use the pulping machine and natural fermentation; the by-products are use to make organic compost.
