Overview

Mrs. Ana Mary Carranza was born in 1959 in the municipality of Mesitas del Colegio in the State of Cundinamarca; She studied until the 3rd grade in High School and started her coffee activity because of familiar traditions. She got the “El Mirador” in 1995 but it didn’t have coffee, so two years later she started with 0,5 hectares of Caturra variety. Today the farm has 2,27 hectares in coffee and the average age of the coffee lots are 7 years. Mrs. Ana Mary Carranza is married, mother of 7 son, with her coffee enterprise is generating employee to the neighbours of the region and she is always attempt to get better conditions for the high quality coffee production. She is getting support from the Extension Service from the FNC. She stands out like a coffee leader from the village “Monserrate”, member of the Cooperative of Coffee Growers of Meta; she is also part of the associative group “ASPROCUBARRAL”. Care of the Environment The farm limits with the Natural Reserve “Parque Nacional Natural Sumapaz”, the practices of conservation for the environment are part of the natural context of living for the farmers and neighbours. All of them are working to reduce the negative impact of the activities in their own lands, for example: - Establishment of alive-barriers in the hills with species like: Cedro, Guamo and Yopo. - Conservation of natural water. - In the process of coffee they use the pulping machine and natural fermentation, the by-products are use to make organic compost. Process FERTILIZATION: applications of organic fertilizer.

They don’t´ have to many problems of diseases or plagues, but for “la broca“ they use cultural practices in the picking like RE-RE (Repaso de Recoleccion) Harvesting Review. HARVEST CYLE: Semester A 20% and Semester B 80% SYSTEM PROCESS: Traditional - Washed
